The only tattoo artist who says that colour changes what you’re doing, of course. For me, that’s quite difficult. A few years ago I came into the world and said, ‘I want to change what I can do with my body. That makes no sense, this makes no sense, and if I look at my friends, I see that they have great blue eyes, but I’d love tattoos of blue eyes.’ It’s been a really good process.

Do artists find tattoos of colour attractive

Yes At the same time, there’s no question that I try to go in the right directionI like to say, ‘I’m going to go in the right direction for my work I want to do what I do on stage, and all of that isn’t necessarily going to change what’s going on with my body.’

What do you think of artists who create tattoos of colour

I love every new form of tattooyou see those in the world right now that you can think ofjust a lot of weird ways to paint things. I love what they’re doing. I love that I can think about the meaning of my work and it’s something that I feel great about doing, so I love that.

You’ve recently won acclaim for your work on the Fantasy project. How do you think your work has influenced future artists

Tattoos of colour are so rare, it’s difficult to look at it objectively. This is a work about tattoos and where they fall, but the truth is I believe in the ability of what I’m about to do to change people. And now I’m getting in touch with artists from across Canada, from Paris to Hong Kong, who are doing these types of stuff and I’m just really excited about it. I’m so close to putting this together.

In 2012 I was awarded the Best Artist Award by Canadian Press, an award that recognizes artists such as Michael Korsky or Tom Watson and has been going on for years.
