What Does Swing Mean In Stocks - Stock Market Advanced Course

2020, Aug 22

We’re starting by taking a look at swing rates from the 2000’s

Here are some swing rates for the 2000’s.

The chart below summarizes the swing rates for the years.

Here is an example of how all this swing could be calculated. For a straight stock, only 14 points out of 100 might turn into an off day. So for a swing of 10 points, it’s worth to look into your stock over and over and see if every swing you made is more than 1 in 100.

To figure out your swing, start by looking at the swing value that you have for the stocks you currently own.

And it’s simple if the number of rows in the table includes one or more non-traditional swing stocks, you’ve now made roughly 3 in 100 points (plus your standard deviation). If you look at those numbers, you can see that each of your swing values will be 11 in 100.

It’s worth pointing out that swing prices also change quickly. If you’re on a low end index that’s already above low points like JPY, it’s likely that your swing value will drop off quite quickly. That’s why there aren’t many straight-to-the-money swing traders out there willing to trade on the open market like I am.

If you want to get a sense for swing values from their raw stats, here’s a couple charts that show how much you probably need to go.

Finally, here are some data for a few major categories of swing stocks, for a little information on that particular swing price.

The chart below starts with a graph that shows how swing prices can be calculated for these stocks.

If you have a general idea on how the various swing pricing methods work and you see a lot of value for the market with a straight stock like JPY, you’ll want to check out my book on this topic. That was just for a quick refresher of this site, and I’ll be happy to share many of the more popular book charts I found.
