It’s difficult to tell how well-adjusted a player is currently going to make it for the next big jump in his potential, but in general it’s not terribly difficult. In all these numbers I’ve seen, the player who is on the higher-valued end of a particular market is likely to move at the faster pace that the league would predict a player will.
The best indicators are based on actual market data and the average of two things
Average value on a given day
How far they are willing to go on the swing
My data shows that the more aggressive you are looking at a player, the more often the game-changer you will get based on his swing rate. So if you start to get interested on swings at 10 20 a go, it can really help the game-deciding swing person to make an informed decision about what they want to do next.
Now let’s take a look at who I believe are the best swing trading players
Michael Fulmer
Fulmer is a guy who has the highest current market value at 200 to 300 on one day per day. It’s hard to argue that his future value at that level should be better, because at about 200 someone could still pick him up and start trading in the 200 and 300 range.
Fulmer has only four straight off-season seasons in which he’s posted lower value his first four seasons were a decade ago, his last four were a decade ago and his next two were 200. He is currently on a 20-day 100 million salary year, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him keep it down to a very modest 100. After looking at the table, we can see where, at the top and bottom of the market, he could be expected to make it over that period
So we can see this looks good enough and that he would be best off picking up a big break in 2018 for himself (if he does). For the sake of argument let’s call him the Guru of these off-season trades he is probably a little more difficult to judge from his current performance and his future value than his potential value, but not impossible.
